Good education, some admin issues

I finished my Bachelor of Arts in Communication last semester. The academic quality was high, and I learned a lot. My professors were generally excellent. However, navigating the financial aid process was a bit confusing, and it took a few calls to get clear answers on my federal work study details. Overall, a good experience, but the administrative side could be smoother.

Positive experience with summer program

My daughter attended a pre-college summer program in cinematic arts this past July. The application process was straightforward online. We received clear communication about deadlines and program details. The campus housing was well-managed, and she really enjoyed the classes, which were engaging and well-taught. She even got to use some professional equipment, which was a big deal for her. The only minor hiccup was that the initial orientation schedule wasn't posted until pretty close to the start date, making travel planning a little tight. But overall, it was a very enriching experience for her, and she came back with lots of new skills and friends.

Amazing Master's Program

I just completed the Master of Science in Data Science program and it was fantastic! The professors were so knowledgeable, and the curriculum was really practical. I feel completely ready for my new job. I will definitely be back for a professional certificate later, and I've already told my colleagues about USC's great programs.

How do payments work for tuition? Can I just pay with a credit card online or what?

S Sam Campbell 5 days ago
You can pay online through their student portal, yeah. I think they accept credit cards, e-checks, and wire transfers. There might be a processing fee for cards though.

I always use an e-check directly from my bank account, saves on any extra fees. It's pretty straightforward on their payment portal.

Thinking of applying for a master's program. What's the deal with tuition discounts for alumni? Do they offer anything if I did my undergrad there?

E Elizabeth Scott 2 weeks ago
I heard they do have some kind of alumni discount for continuing education stuff, not sure about full grad programs though. It's worth looking into that specific department's info.

Pretty sure my friend got a break on a certificate program because he was an alum. Not sure about a whole degree, but there are definitely perks.

How long does it typically take to hear back after applying for undergrad? I applied a while ago and I'm getting antsy.

R Robert Carter 1 month ago
It can take a while, especially if you applied closer to the deadline. I think I heard back late March/early April when I applied years ago.

Yeah, they usually have a set notification period, usually spring. Don't stress too much yet!

Hey, wondering about the application fee. Is there any way to get it waived? Like, some kind of code or something?

B Barbara Sanchez 1 week ago
Yeah, they definitely have fee waivers. I think you gotta meet certain criteria, like financial need or participating in specific programs. Check their admissions page.

My cousin got one last year because she qualified for an SAT fee waiver. If you got that, it usually means you're good for the application fee too.

Are scholarships hard to get? Like the merit ones, not the need-based. Wondering if it's even worth applying for them.

C Carol 3 days ago
Merit scholarships are super competitive, but absolutely worth applying for. They can cover a huge chunk of tuition, even full rides sometimes. You gotta have really strong stats though.

My friend got a decent merit scholarship, but she was like, valedictorian and had insane test scores. It's not easy, but if you've got the grades, go for it.
